Life in Boxes

Have you ever had one of those weeks where you are incredibly busy? This past week has been that in my life. My wife and I are moving out of our tiny home and in with my parents, until we make the big move to Florida in just a few weeks. The reason this past week was so busy, is the fact that in order to move, you have to put your life into cardboard boxes. Playing a giant game of Tetris with your life, figuring out where the mugs and books all go and making sure nothing gets messed up. It also doesn’t help when you are working all day and coming home at night wanting to rest, but you have to pack everything up. It’s a weird feeling at the end, looking at the boxes all stacked up ready to be loaded up. It’s your life. The memories, the necessities, and the luxuries all placed neatly in boxes. You know I talk about the crazy year it’s been so far, and sometimes it can be easy to let Satan get in my head, saying that I’m not enough or that you’ll never make it, but then I have moments where I stop and see my life packed away in those boxes.

It reminds me that God has my back.

Those boxes are blessings. I have the ability to have books and comics, to have plates and food to put on them, the dressers and shelves to use; we have so much. Even in our tiny home that we lived in, we had all we needed. Sure, we don’t have excess amounts of cash, and it would be nice to have Tony Stark levels of not worrying about finances, but we have just what we need. I may not have a job lined up in Florida, but God opened the door for extra hours and extra freelance work. We weren’t sure we would be able to find and apartment that worked in our range, but the perfect place opened up. Even when we needed to sell our old bed, someone who needed it took it off our hands right away.

We are incredibly blessed.

Does that mean life is easy? No, but it does mean that our trust in God has to outweigh the doubts in our heads.

I wasn’t able to right like I normally do this past week, but that’s okay. Priorities need to be in the right order before the extras. When Thursday night is your only free night of the week, I am going to go to the movies with my wife. There is so much begging for your time, and even when it feels weird, you have to say no in order to enjoy the things God wants you to say yes to.

This is going to be a bit of a short post, because life has been busy. I think life tends to get that way for all of us. It’s like a giant roller coaster. Sometimes things are slow and sometimes it gets fast and wild, no matter what stage you are in you need to be mindful.

In the slow moments, take time to think about the blessings that are around you. You woke up, you have food, and God has a purpose for you. You are a child of God, take time in the slow to be focused for when the storms come.

In the fast and wild moments, take heart. Know that because of that whole Easter thing, you know, the big thing we celebrated last weekend, because of that sacrifice and resurrection, God has overcome all things. Rest in that, the stress may not go away, but God will make a way for you to survive this trial.

Life in Boxes

I say these things for you, but I also say them for me. I don’t want to lose sight of the important things in life and I don’t want to forget the things that God has blessed me with.

This week will be another busy one. My wife and I will be going to the Orange Conference in Georgia, which will be an incredible time and also a busy time. I will be writing a blog about our time there and what we learned, so be on the look for that next Monday!

Take time this week to remember the blessings God has placed in your life.
