It’s finally my favorite time of year! The start of the fall season always brings me joy. The crisp air and the changing colors, well, not really here in Florida, but the season always makes me so happy. A great part of this season, are all the spooky b-movies that I devour. Goofy, yes. Cheesy, absolutely! I always love watching b-movies, and October seems to be the perfect fit for them. I also love movies because they can teach us a lot about our own lives. So, today kicks off my b-movie series here on the blog, today we’ll be looking at the king of all monsters.

Godzilla is a great movie. In 1954, the movie was a commentary about nuclear weapons and the fear that surrounded them. A very profound view of a post-world war era, but the sequels went a bit sillier. Numerous sequels added monsters of all kinds, each more bizarre than the last, with the common factor that Godzilla was always the king of the monsters.

I think in our lives, fear is the king of the monsters. We have desires, passions, and dreams to do great things, but fear is always the king that holds us back. God has not designed us to live in fear, yet often, we are held back because of it.

The truth about fear is this; fear is a lie from the enemy and has no place in our lives.

I’m reminded of Joshua’s life. Whenever I think of fear, I think about the odds Joshua was up against. Put yourself in his shoes for a moment. Your mentor has just given you complete responsibility of an entire race of people. You’ve been wandering in the desert, having to make sure all of your people stay safe and healthy. And you are entering territories where people are determined to wipe you off the face of the planet. That’s a ton of pressure. Yet, in this moment, God reminds you of something.

Be strong and courageous.

God in this moment audibly speaks to Joshua and says, “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.” Fear will try to tell you that you aren’t worthy, that you don’t have the ability, or that you won’t amount to anything. This is a lie from hell to keep you from stepping into the greatness that you have been called into. Yes, fear is the king of monsters, but God is called the king of kings.

In a month designed to be filled with the creepy and crawly stuff, fear is all over. Fear isn’t the things we see in b-movies, it’s the stuff that holds us back from who God has created you to be. Joshua faced odds that were definitely not in favor of him, but despite all the fears that surrounded him, he chose to trust in his creator. He chose not to let fear be the king, but let God be the king in his life. When we choose to let God be the king in our lives, we have victory over all fear. That doesn’t mean the hardships and roadblocks won’t come, it means that despite all the monsters we face, we have victory in the king of kings.

Godzilla is a series all about giant monsters that are really people in costumes, that always battle and create chaos, but in the end, they never win. You will face troubles, but God is still king. He has designed you for a purpose and when we trust in him, he allows us to have victory over fear.

Don’t let fear be the king in your life, because you have been made with a mighty purpose.
